About The Film (11 am)

The greatest generation of comedians cut their teeth on the stages of the Catskill Mountain’s resorts and hotels in the ‘70s. Although at the time, Jews represented only 3% of the US population, they accounted for nearly 80% of professional comedians. Jerry Lewis, Sid Caesar, Jackie Mason, Jerry Stiller…where did these guys come from?

In short: the “comedy boot camp” of the Catskills Mountains. The resorts and hotels of the so-called Borscht Belt were the setting for the most important era in American humor. These stages were laboratories for an entire generation of standup comics, a welcoming place where they could pursue their dreams and hone their craft.

Hosted by Robert Klein, this spirited documentary features interviews, performances, and archival clips from comic greats like Jerry Stiller, Jackie Mason, Larry King, Mel Brooks, Lenny Bruce, Don Rickles, Rodney Dangerfield, Joan Rivers, Marc Maron, Billy Crystal, and many more. What better way to get a comedic education?
