About The FilmA candid look at the impact of race, culture, and family secrets on a person’s identity, LITTLE WHITE LIE tells the story of Lacey Schwartz, a biracial woman who was raised believing she was white. Schwartz grew up in a Jewish family in the largely white town of Woodstock, New York. She always believed she was white, despite her dark skin, supposedly inherited from her father’s swarthy Sicilian grandfather. As Lacey gets older, she begins to question the story she’s been told about who she is and her parents’ picture-perfect marriage. When she eventually confronts her mother, she learns the truth behind her parents’ “little white lie.” This deeply personal film raises questions about how we create our identities, and what happens when we’re forced to redefine ourselves and our community. It is both the story of a particular family and a universal exploration of the power of identity, family, and communication.
