From hero of the Six Day War to unlikely endorser of the Road Map to Peace, Ariel Sharon's life is inextricably linked to the course of Israeli history. Director Dror Moreh's timely documentary is an intimate look at the former Israeli prime minister prior to his devastating stroke in 2006. The film features first-time interviews with the people closest to him, charting his commando past, through accusations of war crimes in Palestinian refugee camps, to his role as leader of the Jewish people. At the heart of the film is Sharon's historic decision to demolish Jewish settlements in the West Bank and Gaza, a unilateral attempt at peace that met with fierce opposition from within his own ranks. Culled from archival material and hours of newly-recorded footage, Sharon is an authoritative study of this consequential and divisive figure.
