Director Maurice Amaraggi follows his family roots to the port city of Salonika, once a thriving cosmopolitan Jewish center until its Sephardic community was destroyed in the Holocaust. Today's mix of new immigrants and construction—including a university built over a Jewish cemetery—conceal Salonika's rich and dark past.
