Description

Nominated for 11 Israeli Oscars, this knotty family drama features acclaimed actor Sasson Gabai (The Band's Visit) as the reclusive owner of an antique furniture store facing an uncertain future until a new apprentice discovers a Steinway piano that might keep the business afloat. Yossi Madmoni's expertly made first solo feature film won Best Feature Film at the 2011 Jerusalem Film Festival.

"Blood is thicker than varnish remover, and more caustic, in Restoration a handsome production of intriguing... surfaces. Marked by disquietingly beautiful imagery, this drama should find a place among... those who want to stay abreast of developments in Israeli cinema--which, as director Joseph Madmony's film indicates so strongly, seems to be moving away, more and more, from the overtly political/allegorical in favor of the character-driven. The look of Restoration is superb... the characters are well defined and the emotions genuine, and the subtext borders on the otherworldly... Gabay gives a terrific performance in director Madmony's unorthodox movie..."--John Anderson, Variety
