About the Film
G-DCAST:
SHEMINI is the 26th episode in a weekly series that brings the Torah to life in 55 animated short films. Each is written and voiced - or in this case, sung - by a different interesting Jewish artist, storyteller, educator or activist from around the world.
SHEMINI was written and performed by JDub recording artist Dan Saks, who also plays with Sephardic indie rock band DeLeon and the new Jewish children's band The Macaroons.
This particular parsha tells the tale of the deaths of Aaron's sons Nadav and Avihu, who are punished for bringing a "strange fire" to the altar. It then takes an abrupt turn towards enumerating the laws of kashrut. So naturally, this film is a musical in two parts - one part solemn crime and punishment, and one part whimsical portrayals of everything from pigs and shrimp to bats and grasshoppers. Not sure what kind of bugs Jews can eat? Tune in to find out.
Tune in weekly to G-dcast
