The highly controversial topic of homosexuality in Jerusalem's ultra-Orthodox community is examined in EYES WIDE OPEN when a butcher and married father falls in love with a seductive younger man. Aaron (Zohar Strauss) runs a kosher butcher shop and lives a quiet, orderly life with his wife and four sons. With the arrival of Ezri (Israeli heartthrob Ran Danker), life is disrupted by awakening, dormant feelings. When a next-door neighbor strays from righteousness, Aaron is forced to join the rabbi in making threats that could soon be redirected at him if he continues his passionate affair. He must choose between personal freedom and religious responsibility, in a world where the laws of free will and desire do not necessarily reign supreme. Plays with:Lost Paradise
The camera of first-time feature director Haim Tabakman breathes down the backs of his subjects, creating a tightly wound universe of quiet desperation and a sharp, heartbreaking investigation of his own religion. Warning: mature sexual content.
