Locals Only

As part of a community arts outreach effort, if you are a "verified" local Seattle or Washington-state resident filmmaker, email us at  This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.  to discuss direct submission or obtaining a fee waiver code to input during your WAB submission process. (Please note that once submission fees have been paid they may not be refunded even if your film subsequently qualifies as a student or local film). Please clearly mark your submission on the packaging that the film is from a local filmmaker.

Formats for Film Submissions

Please submit a minimum of 2 DVD screeners (preferably region 0 or region 1 NTSC DVDs) or a secure online screener. If your DVD screener is only available in PAL/SECAM, please mark it clearly as "PAL," and we will do our best to accommodate consideration. Notification by February 1, 2018.

  • Digital Cinema Package (DCP)
  • Blu-Ray
  • HDCAM
  • We do not screen films on DVD, and ideally not in PAL formats

Fees and Fee Waivers

All unsolicited submissions MUST come through Withoutabox.com. Submission fees range from $10 - $30 (for short/student films to feature-length submissions) with discounts for WAB users and students, and in some cases, such as student shorts under 10 min., waived completely.

SJFF is a program of Stroum JCC, a 501C3 non-profit organization. While we recognize the funding challenges that filmmakers face, film submission revenue is part of the festival's operating budget. We do offer student and local filmmakers reduced or waived fees. Unfortunately, beyond that, we are unable to.Fee waivers are rarely granted. Student filmmakers must be currently enrolled or recently graduated, or their submission a student project, and you will be asked to submit references or documentation for verification.
