About The FilmLong before Jean-Marie Lustiger was appointed the Archbishop of Paris, he was one of countless Jewish children hiding in a safe house during World War II. After converting to Catholicism at age 14, Lustiger joined the priesthood and rose through the ranks of the church—but always maintained his cultural identity as a Jew. When Pope Jean-Paul II appoints him Archbishop of Paris in 1981, Lustiger finds himself in a prominent new position to celebrate his dual identity as a Catholic Jew. But reconciling his Catholic faith and Jewish heritage isn’t always easy, and earns him as many enemies as friends. When a group of Carmelite nuns attempt to build a convent within the cursed walls of Auschwitz, Lustiger finds himself a mediator between the two communities, and may at last be forced to choose a side.
