About the Film:FacebookRSVPFinal2018

When young Margalit (Adi Bielski) meets kibbutznik Eli (Avrahim Aviv Alush, THE WOMEN’S BALCONY, SJFF 2017) on a bus in rural 1947 Palestine, she’s love-struck. Eager to make an impression on Eli—a member of the elite Palmach pre-independence fighting force and the son of Israel’s future president—she starts helping him smuggle European refugees into the country. However, she is reluctant to give up her creative life as drama student and theater devotee, and to make the necessary sacrifices in this momentous, turbulent time. Based on the true story of theater director and actress Pnina Gary, AN ISRAELI LOVE STORY’s mix of idealism, romance, and tragedy has poignant power as Israel’s harsh realities overcome the young lovers.
