About The Film

Israeli director Avi Nesher (TURN LEFT AT THE END OF THE WORLD, THE MATCHMAKER) returns with a suspenseful and twisty tale based on a true story. Sephi and Nana are sibling rivals and friends raised in a strict and competitive household by Holocaust survivors. On a musical tour of Germany, Sephi, a budding composer, is thrust into the past by a traumatic encounter and enlists her fiery journalist sister Nana to investigate their father’s experience during the war. Nelly Tagar (ZERO MOTIVATION) and Joy Rieger (VALLEY) shine as siblings and leading ladies. Variety calls PAST LIFE Nesher’s best film yet.

Directors Bio

Award-winning writer and director Avi Nesher is known for films that deconstruct Israeli society and mythology. His landmark film TURN LEFT AT THE END OF THE WORLD (SJFF 2005) broke box office records and secured three Israeli Academy Awards; 2010’s THE MATCHMAKER (SJFF 2011) was nominated for nine Israeli Academy Awards and won three.
