About The Film

Maurice Gutman breaks his leg and is brought to a hospital in the Paris suburb of Garches. From the ambulance, Maurice sees family being taken away. It is WWII, and French Jews had to wear the yellow star and faced persecution by occupying Germans. At the clinic, chief physician Dr. Daviel diagnoses a tuberculosis pathogen in Maurice’s leg. He will have to spend three years, until the end of the war, in the hospital along with a motley group of teenage boys. Maurice attributes this long stay only to his illness when in reality he is being hidden from the Nazis by the attending doctor and senior nurse. Only when the letters to his family are returned to him and his native tongue Yiddish is forbidden, does Maurice being to understand he faces utmost danger.
