About The Film
In this clever modern adaptation of a biblical love triangle, barren Sarah—a harpist in the Jerusalem Philharmonic Orchestra—is married to Abraham, its charismatic, authoritarian conductor. When young horn player Hagar (Yana Yossef, nominated for an Ophir/Israeli Oscar as Best Supporting Actress) joins the orchestra, a unique friendship evolves between the two women. Feeling Sarah’s pain of childlessness, Hagar offers to have a baby for her with Abraham then disappears, leaving them with the boy. Years later, the son—born Ismail but renamed Ben and ignorant of his origins—becomes a gifted yet wild and uncontrollable pianist, while Sarah, now in her late forties, unexpectedly gives birth to Isaac. Hagar’s return exposes secrets that ultimately lead to Ben’s dramatic journey of self-discovery. Winner of two awards at the Jerusalem Film Festival and featuring orchestral performances of Western and Eastern music, HARMONIA is a personal interpretation of the iconic story. Lead actor Alon Aboutboul to attend.
