BRUNCH EVENT SOLD OUT - SOME FILM ONLY TICKETS AVAILABLE AT THE DOOR About Our Matzoh Momma Sunday Brunch & Family FilmThirteen-year-old Mica takes to heart his rabbi’s dictate of tikkun olam, to help “heal the world,” and launches a campaign to send baseball equipment to less fortunate kids in Cuba. He only knows a few things about Cubans: they lack resources, they love baseball, and they gave his grandfather refuge during the Holocaust. Nearly 70 years after his grandfather escaped Austria and ended up in Cuba, Mica feels a need to repay the debt. As part of his bar mitzvah service project, he enthusiastically begins collecting bats, mitts, and balls, without realizing that good intentions might not be enough. The US embargo on Cuba throws more than a few curveballs Mica’s way, and he must decide how far he’s willing to go to follow his dream. Filmed over the course of two years by his filmmaker parents, HAVANA CURVEBALL offers a unique opportunity to watch a child grow up both physically and psychically as he confronts the complexity of the adult world while managing to keep his idealism alive. A timely film indeed!
