~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Once a year the American Jewish Committee adopts the magic of film to
create a spectacular 8-day celebration of Jewish experiences from around
the world: the Seattle Jewish Film Festival (SJFF). In 2002, we will
celebrate our 7th Year of bringing the best films with Jewish themes to
Seattle.
As the festival has grown, so has recognition of our community wide
impact. In 1999 the Seattle Times named SJFF as one of just two
not-to-be-missed “big impact” film events for all of 1999. In 2001 the
festival was welcomed by Vulcan, Inc. into the historic Cinerama Theater
increasing our visibility and reinforcing our stature as the premiere
Jewish Cultural event in the Greater Seattle area. In fact, SJFF has grown
to become the largest annual Jewish community event in the Northwest.
There has been so much conversation about how important the arts are right
now as a way to heal our wounded spirits after the horrific acts of
September 11th. Film has a special way of communicating with the soul, and
we believe the community is going to turn to the SJFF in greater numbers
this year. The American Jewish
Committee has played a prominent role educating and helping
people achieve understanding. Please visit the national AJC website
for more information on their work:
www.ajc.org.
Please join us in sharing the simcha, shtick and
shpilkes of Jewish Culture!
Returning Traditions:
FILMTalks! 5th Anniversary!
Last year over 600 area teens
attended this incredibly unique diversity-training day. Using film as a
platform for discussions about race-relations and intolerance reduction,
FILMTalks! provides a comfortable environment for teens to share their
experiences and turn this new awareness into action. Taking place Thursday
April 25th. Call Shmuel Rubinstein at (206) 622-6315 for more information.
Community Tickets Each year SJFF renews its commitment to
welcoming members of the richly diverse Seattle community. We will
continue to provide free tickets to community organizations that serve
specific populations of less-fortunate people. Call Rebecca Lackman at
(206) 622-6315 for more information.
Community Partners Program The Community Partners Program
invites organizations throughout Seattle to sponsor a film in exchange for
promotion and publicity at the Festival. Becoming a Community Partner
gives organizations the opportunity to reach new constituents and
supporters while demonstrating their commitment to Jewish culture in
Seattle. For information about being a
Community Partner, call Molly Sedlik at (206) 622-6315.
New Programs:
Trailer Contest!
SJFF invites you to participate in the first annual film festival trailer
contest.
Community FILMTalks! The success of
FILMTalks! coupled with the
recent troubling world climate has given rise to the idea of extending
this proven program into an evening program for adults. Participants will
watch a film, discuss current topical elements of the film in smaller
groups and create commitment cards that will encourage them to take an
active role in community building. Taking place Tuesday April 23rd.
SJFF Support The Seattle Jewish Film Festival survives
because of our loyal individual supporters. The value of return on your
investment in this program includes passes to the festival, an
appreciation dinner at Il Fornaio and many fun gifts, not to mention the
incredible sense of community that comes with being a part of this event.
With the impending decrease in national arts funding we need your support
more than ever. Please call or email us and join the SJFF family!
